March Catch Up

These last few weeks had me feeling like I never quit moving. Two weeks ago now, we had automotive class three nights in a row after work. They were amazing classes and I learned a lot. But it was to work, to class home and sleep for those three nights. Worth it, but it made for long days. In the middle of all that, I pulled the trigger on a big boy desk. I have been using one that was gifted to me by friends years ago. It worked well but felt cramped for trying to use a computer, hand write notes and then add in podcasting gear. It was time for an upgrade.

I now have a desk that fits my laptop, two additional monitors and I can leave a swing arm microphone stand attached without it being in the way. Sometimes these little changes that remove the annoyances of life are worth it. I am still figuring out where everything fits and finding things I misplaced while moving desks, but I am settling in. That is also partially why the blog has been silent. I was waiting for things to come in and to get settled in. So this is my first post from the new desk with a new keyboard. When it is less cluttered, I will post pics.

Thursday, Jeff and I recorded the first episode of the new season of Mental Flog! I have two potential guests I have spoken to and am excited to see where this season takes us. The first episode will go live on March 13th. It will go to all the usual podcast hosts. However, since Jeff and I recorded remotely, this season has Video! On the 13th, the video recording will go live on YouTube! I am working on uploading all the season one episodes to YouTube as well. Those will not have video, but it gives us another place where listeners can find the show.

We now have the ability to expand our guest list with remote recording. With this new change, it is possible to have guests and even listeners join us on camera. An additional discovery is the ability to connect my tablet to the mixing board and have a live call in show using our existing Google voice number. This would have to be a planned show, and we would probably need to expand our listener base in order to make it more than a show with an occasional call. However, I find these new possibilities to be exciting, and I look forward to using them this season.

Here is a little clip of our recording session. Season two will take more work to record these episodes. There will be research done in order to better serve our listeners and give more than just our opinion on the broad range of subjects we intend to cover. I have a large stack of books to review for this season.

No tiny human this weekend. We did however go out for breakfast with friends yesterday and again today with Shelby's family. We gathered to enjoy each other's company and possibly because I get older this month. I am still working through celebrating my birthday. It is not my favorite thing, but I am becoming more open to it. I will admit that my reluctance to celebrate is due to past birthday experiences. Some from my childhood such as getting grounded on my 16th birthday because I phrased something in a way my father misunderstood and no matter how I tried to explain it he had no intention of trying to understand. To going from being in a large family and friend group to suddenly single and alone. While I do have pictures of a single wide full of rather inebriated party goers, it was still hard. Maybe I have birthday PTSD? I have lost some meaningful relationships in the month of March, near my birthday. I am working on getting better about his.

Tomorrow I am going to my first therapy appointment with a new therapist. The last time I went to therapy, it ended with me telling my then wife I was ready for a divorce. God, that therapist was a crack pot. I do believe therapy is good and useful for processing things. I don't really know what tomorrow's session will be like. I feel like I am in a good place, and I am unsure of what I need to cover. I have done a lot of self work, but I am curious to see what this session will bring. Well dear readers due to the time change it is quickly approaching 11 PM and I should turn in because 5 in the morning is the new six in the morning.
